Chicago Man Charged With 4 Felonies After Attempting To Rob Ex
On January 26, 2024, at approximately 11:10 AM, East Chicago Police Officers were dispatched to First Merchant Bank in reference to a customer who stated that she was forced out of her home by her ex-boyfriend at gunpoint, according to Chief Jose Rivera. The customer further stated that her ex-boyfriend drove her to the bank and ordered her to take out $1,200. She stated that she only agreed to go with him because she knew the bank would only allow 1 person inside at a time, and this would allow her the opportunity to ask for help, Rivera said.
Once inside the bank, she advised the teller of the situation, and the police were immediately called. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Officers then began searching the area and located the suspect behind the victims’ home in the alley. The suspect immediately fled from officers on foot. Officers then chased the suspect and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.
The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Kristian Thomas of Chicago, Illinois. He was transported to the East Chicago Police Department Jail and subsequently charged with:
Criminal Confinement (Level 3 Felony)
Attempted Robbery (Level 3 Felony)
Intimidation (Level 5 Felony)
Residential Entry (Level 6 Felony)
Interference with reporting a crime & Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanors)
“Great job by the Uniform Patrol Division for getting this violent criminal off our streets and great job to the Criminal Investigation Division for getting the charges filed in a timely manner,” Rivera said.
