A Chicago man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he sold fentanyl and cocaine on two separate occasions in the parking lot of a Hammond Walmart, then attempted to flee during his arrest.

According to court documents, Rudy E. Wallace conducted drug transactions on June 30 and July 15, 2025, in the parking lot of the Walmart at 7850 Cabela Drive in Hammond.

On June 30, Wallace was observed arriving as a passenger in a black Chevrolet Avalanche. He entered another vehicle in the parking lot and then left shortly after. Detectives later recovered a plastic bag containing 26 baggies of a powdery substance and 3 baggies of a rock-like substance. Wallace ran toward the entrance of Walmart and entered the passenger side of a gray Volkswagen Passat, yelling at the driver to “go.” The vehicle was blocked by police, and Wallace attempted to place the keys in the ignition. Officers ordered him to show his hands and exit the car, but he continued to resist, reaching toward his waistband and refusing to be handcuffed. He ultimately complied after being warned he would be tased.

Police recovered 38 baggies containing a powdery substance from the vehicle. Testing confirmed the substance contained fentanyl with a total weight of 26.0 grams (including packaging). Officers also found $1,376 in cash in Wallace’s jeans pocket.
