Chicago Man Charged With Multiple Firearm Felonies Following I-94 Traffic Stop In Porter County

Rayshawn Raymond Jacox, 26, of Chicago, is facing multiple felony firearm charges and a misdemeanor drug charge following a traffic stop and vehicle search on Interstate 94 in Porter County.

Indiana State Police were parked in a crossover on eastbound I-94 near the 18.1 mile marker around 7:20 p.m. on December 15, 2025, when a white 2021 Chevrolet Equinox was observed traveling 92 mph in a posted 70 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted near the 19.9 mile marker.

As the trooper approached the vehicle, the odor of burnt marijuana was detected. The front-seat passenger was identified as Jacox and was observed with marijuana residue all over his lap. The driver admitted to speeding.

Troopers searched the vehicle based on the odor of marijuana and the residue observed during the initial contact.

During the search, troopers located two brown cigars containing marijuana, an extended handgun magazine loaded with 27 rounds of .40-caliber ammunition, and a black .40-caliber Glock handgun, model 22 Gen 4, in the rear hatch area. Investigators noted the magazine and firearm appeared to have been thrown into the rear of the vehicle from inside.

Troopers documented that both serial numbers on the Glock had been removed and that one round remained chambered. Jacox admitted the firearm belonged to him, said he did not have a permit, and acknowledged he was a convicted felon. He told troopers he bought the firearm from a friend and later stated he paid $1,000 for it, adding that the serial numbers were already removed when he purchased it.

The marijuana was field tested and tested positive, with a total approximate weight of three grams. Jacox also admitted the marijuana belonged to him and said he had smoked marijuana earlier that day.

Court records show Jacox qualifies as a serious violent felon based on a prior robbery conviction in Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois dated October 2020, for which he was sentenced to six years in prison.

The driver was issued a citation for speeding and released at the scene. Jacox was transported to the Porter County Jail.

Charges filed December 17,2025:

• Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon – Level 4 Felony

• Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun – Level 5 Felony

• Possession of a Handgun With an Obliterated Serial Number – Level 5 Felony

• Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
