Chicago Woman Attempted To Get All You Can Eat For An Entire Table
On August 2, 2024, at approximately 8:38 PM, Portage Police responded to a verbal disturbance at 6211 US Hwy 6 at Applebee’s Bar & Grill.
Dispatch advised officers they heard multiple females screaming and threatening people. As officers arrived on scene they were met outside by a female who was with the subject yelling. As officers began speaking with her, two other adult subjects, along with several juveniles walked outside and stood next to her. The woman began to advise officers they were involved in a verbal altercation with the Applebee’s Manager because she was under the impression the “All You Can Eat,” if ordered by one person, was good for the entire table. When informed by the manager each person would in fact have to pay the $15.99 for the meal special, words were exchanged.
According to the woman, the manager became very unprofessional towards them. She advised officers nowhere on the menu did it state “per person.” The woman then proceeded to hand officers a menu which showed the “All You Can Eat” special and while they were looking over the menu, underneath the bold letterings which read “All You Can Eat” was displayed “Per Person.” The officer turned the menu around and proceeded to show them. At that time, a separate couple was walking out of the exit of the restaurant. The woman began to point at the couple and advised the officer that words were exchanged between them as well. As the couple walked out of the door, words were again exchanged between them. At that time the woman became very loud and disorderly, attracting the attention of other patrons due to her behavior. The officer warned the woman she would be charged for disorderly conduct. The woman’s friend then approached her yelling, “no, no, no, no, no,” to quiet her, but was unable to. At one point, the friend proceeded to place her hand over her mouth in another attempt to quiet her, but again, was unable to.
After being warned again for disorderly conduct, the woman continued to yell and act disorderly. The officer then approached her and informed her she was going to be placed under arrest. The officer then proceeded to place her into handcuffs and escorted her to the patrol vehicle.
The woman now identified as Shawneesha Cobbs of Chicago was transported to the Porter County Jail. Cobbs other friend then proceeded to go inside the restaurant and paid her bill in full, after realizing the menu stated the special was “per person.”
Shawneesha Cobbs was charged with Disorderly Conduct (B-Misdemeanor).
