Chicago Woman Charged After Late-Night Incident at Portage Train Station

Portage- A 19-year-old Chicago woman is facing multiple charges after police say she refused to leave a train platform, resisted arrest, and urinated on a ticket machine late at night at the Portage/Ogden Dunes NICTD station.

According to court documents, the incident happened around 11:10 p.m. on October 21, 2025, at Hillcrest Road and U.S. 12. NICTD Transit Police were first alerted earlier that night after train staff reported two disorderly subjects who had been asked to leave the train multiple times but refused. They eventually got off at the Portage/Ogden Dunes station and remained at the platform .

Surveillance video reportedly showed the female subject — later identified as Javonyah M. Butler, 19, of Chicago — smoking inside a posted no-smoking shelter. At about 11:10 p.m., Butler pulled her pants down, exposing her genitals and began urinating on the ticket machine and subsequently, the floor.

When officers arrived, Butler allegedly became combative, refused to provide identification, tried to run from the shelter, and pulled away as officers attempted to detain her. She was eventually restrained, handcuffed, and transported from the scene .

Charges Filed October 23, 2025:

    •    Criminal Trespass — Class A Misdemeanor

    •    Resisting Law Enforcement — Class A Misdemeanor

    •    Public Nudity — Class C Misdemeanor

    •    Smoking Prohibited, Public Place — Infraction

    •    Unlawful Possession of Tobacco Product — Infraction

Lodged in the Porter County Jail.
