Community Healthcare System Marks 50,000 COVID Vaccine Given
Marking a significant milestone in the state of Indiana and nation’s vaccination efforts, Community Healthcare System recently administered its 50,000th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“We celebrate this accomplishment, but know there’s more work to be done,” said Elizabeth Clements, director of Pharmacy, Community Hospital. “With vaccinations now available to people ages 16 and up, we strongly encourage that everyone book their appointment and help protect our community.”
Nicole Bracik, recipient of the 50,000th shot, said her motivation for getting the vaccine is “to protect my family members who could have greater complications if they contract COVID.”
Community Hospital in Munster, one of four hospitals in Community Healthcare System, was selected by the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) as one of first healthcare facilities in the state to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020. Since then, a second vaccine clinic has opened at Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center in Crown Point. Between the two locations, more than 70,000 COVID vaccine shots have been administered to patients, comprising more than half of the total shots given in Lake County to date.
“Our staff, working in the COVID Vaccine Clinics, are performing jobs beyond their normal duties and we thank them for their dedication and resilience throughout the pandemic,” said Clements, who manages the clinic operations.
