Convicted Sex Offender Faces Felony Charges After Brutal Assault in Gary
According to court documents, a 54-year-old man and registered sex offender is facing multiple felony charges after a woman reported being violently attacked and choked unconscious during a domestic incident in a Gary basement.
Shaun Henry Brame was formally charged on July 18, 2025, in connection with a June 16 attack at a home in the 2400 block of Jackson Street. The victim told police that Brame beat her, kicked her, and strangled her into unconsciousness multiple times while her 4-year-old son was present. She said the assault began after Brame became angry during an argument with his family member over alcohol.
The woman stated Brame struck her in the face several times, kicked her in the torso, and forced her into a bathroom where he reportedly choked her and slammed her into a mirror. When she regained consciousness, she said Brame continued to yell at her and eventually took her phone to prevent her from calling police. She later escaped the home and sought help at a nearby fire station.
According to court documents, Brame was identified through police body camera footage and Indiana BMV records, which list his address at the same location where the assault occurred. Officers noted visible injuries on the woman, including bruising, swelling, and bleeding to her face, neck, and upper body.
Brame was lodged in the Lake County Jail on July 19, 2025.
According to court documents, Brame is a registered sex offender with prior convictions under both the names Shaun Henry Brame and Shaun Henry Neely. His convictions include:

• Failure to Register as a Sex or Violent Offender – Level 6 Felony
• Sentenced to 12 months in the Lake County Jail, suspended to probation

• Indecent Solicitation of an Adult Involving Penetration of a Victim aged 13 to 17 – Felony
• Criminal Sexual Assault of a Family Member – Felony

• Two counts of Failure to Report Annually to the Illinois Department of Corrections – Felonies

As a result of these convictions, Brame is required to register for life as a sex offender in Indiana.
