Crete Burglary Suspect Nabbed With Guns On Him On A 1 Million Dollar Warrant
On Friday February 28, 2020 the Chicago Gang Enforcement Team Area South-Unit 312 arrested Clifford D Stokes, 27, of Chicago in a stolen vehicle, after fleeing from police, Crete Police Chief Scott Pieritz said. In addition to being wanted by The Crete Police Department for burglary, two firearms were also recovered in the vehicle Mr. Stokes was driving. The burglary charge comes from his involvement in break-ins on November 5 and December 7, 2019 where several individuals stole approximately $20,000 in tools from Shorewood Home and Auto Crete, IL, Pieritz stated. The evidence obtained by Crete Police at those scenes was enough to get a warrant for his arrest in the amount of 1 million dollars. Mr. Stokes has an extensive criminal history, including past burglaries, Pieritz went on to say.
Crete Police Detectives have been working closely with the Chicago Gang Enforcement Team in efforts to apprehend him. Mr. Stokes will be held in Cook County facing charges prior to being transported to Will County on the warrant. Additional charges are pending against Mr. Stokes and others involved in these burglaries which have plagued the South Suburbs.
The Crete Police Department is dedicated to the safety of the public and will pursue those who commit crimes in their jurisdiction. This includes forming close relationships with other law enforcement agencies to work in collaboration to prosecute those who break the law. Pieritz would like to sincerely thank the Chicago Gang Enforcement Team Area South-Unit 312 for their assistance and arrest of a dangerous individual. The Crete Police Department values its partnerships with other fellow City, County, State and federal law enforcement partners who provide resources and assistance.
