Crown Point Fire Rescues Man From Confined Space

At 10:08 AM, Wednesday, August 14, the Crown Point Fire Department responded to East 129th Avenue and Mississippi Parkway for a confined space rescue, according to a press release from fire officials.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a City of Crown Point employee fell into a lift station and was trapped at the bottom. The employee was rescued by the Crown Point Fire Technical Rescue Team by 11:14 AM.

The employee was airlifted by Loyola LifeStar with serious injuries to the University of Chicago Hyde Park in stable condition.

“We train every day to keep our community safe, and our Technical Rescue Team holds training monthly for situations just like this,” Crown Point Fire Chief Mark Baumgardner Jr. said. “The City workforce is like family, so when it’s one of our own, it’s more personal. We’re keeping this employee and their family in our thoughts.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified of the incident.

The Crown Point Police Department also responded to the scene. No further information is available at this time.
