Crown Point Man Charged After Alleged Threats And Police Pursuit In Winfield

Shawn Michael Walsh, 53, of Crown Point, is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after court documents allege he threatened his ex-wife and fled from police in Winfield after dropping off their 11-year-old son at a residence where no adult was present.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on February 17, 2026 at approximately 7:54 p.m., Winfield police were dispatched to a residence in the 11000 block of Green Place regarding custodial interference after dispatch advised the caller was receiving threats from her ex-husband, Walsh, who was reportedly heading to the address in a black Nissan Sentra.

An officer arriving at the residence observed a black sedan backing out of the driveway while a juvenile male later identified as the couple’s 11-year-old son stood crying in the doorway. Police activated emergency lights and ordered Walsh to stop multiple times, but he looked at the officer, waved, and drove northbound on Green Place, leaving the scene.

Officers made contact with the child, who was visibly distraught and stated his mother was not home but was on her way. The mother then arrived and told police Walsh had been threatening her. The child spontaneously stated that “he said he was going to kill her.”

Court documents state the mother then received a phone call from Walsh, who said their son was home “safe.” When told police were present and asked to return, Walsh replied, “Why would I come back there, there’s no need for me to come back there. I dropped my kid off because he got kicked out of practice.” He then refused to return.

The mother told police Walsh had taken the child from school despite knowing no one was home and had been screaming at her over the phone. She provided text messages from Walsh including:

• “you file for full custody, you will not see the end of it and neither of us will get them”

• “you forgot I can go to gun shows”

• “bang bang hang bit**”

• “Shut up whore, Go fuc* your nig***! Can’t wait til Wednesday I’m going to fuc* you and your lawyer, Then hang the nig*** from a tree”

• “Your attorney is getting punched tomorrow”

She also reported Walsh had threatened to kill her the previous night in front of the child. Police confirmed Walsh had previously been trespassed from the residence.
