Damage To Multiple Fences Leads To Arrest Of Juveniles
At about 1:20 AM, Sunday, October 15, St. John Police were dispatched to the 12000 Blk of W. 103rd Ct where the complainant saw several young juveniles break her neighbor’s fence, according to St John Police. The homeowner and officers saw six panels broken out of the victim’s PVC fence.
Officers searched the area and were assisted by Schererville and Dyer Police Departments. Officers were able to track the juveniles with the help of a Dyer Police K9 to a residence in the 12000 block of Hedwig Dr. Officers met with the residents and took into custody four juvenile males, two age 15 and two age 16. The juveniles were taken to the St. John Police Department where they met with parents and were later released. Officers agreed that charges would not be filed as long as the damage was repaired to the satisfaction of the victim. By Sunday afternoon, the victim had already been contacted by the parents of the juvenile suspects to make arrangements for repair of the damage.
Early Sunday Morning at about 8:15 AM, officers were dispatched to the 10700 Block of Manor Dr. where the complainant reported that approximately 10-15 feet of her PVC fence was damaged. The homeowner estimated damages at about $3000.00.
After leaving the above call, officers saw damage to a fence in the 10500 block of Maloian Dr. The homeowner was contacted and stated that the damage occurred sometime during the night. The homeowner estimated the damages at about $5000.00.
In all of these cases, vertical slats were broken out of the fence frame. These property damages stem from a viral internet trend called the Koolaid Man challenge. These cases remain under investigation.
