Death Investigation Underway After Car Fire
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Police were called to a possible field on fire at 800 N. and 200 W., Tuesday.
When officers arrived, they discovered a fully engulfed car off the road. Wheatfield Fire with the assistance of Keener Township Fire extinguished the blaze. After the blaze was extinguished, it was noted that the car contained human remains, police said. The sheriffs department then called for the Jasper County Coroner, Indiana State Police Scene Tech and the Indiana State Fire Marshall.
After all agencies conferred the best way to preserve the scene was to remove it and take it to a secure location to be investigated properly. This investigation is ongoing and could take several days to complete, police added. No identification of the deceased has been made.
