Death Of Lake County Jail Employee From COVID-19
“It is with deep regret and sorrow that we inform the public of the death of a cherished Lake County Jail Mental Health Counselor,” said Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. “His absence is felt deeply throughout the sheriff’s department and jail,” the sheriff said.
May 9th was his last work day and he was not feeling ill. On or about May 10th, he advised our staff that he was wasn’t feeling well enough to come to work. He was advised to stay home and to seek appropriate attention from his medical provider. As time progressed, his condition worsened and he was eventually admitted to the hospital, where he tested positive for COVID-19.
“He was an excellent employee and a true professional,” Sheriff Martinez said, “well liked by both staff and inmates.”
“Our staff is pulling together to help those who knew him to cope with this tremendous loss. We will be providing grief counseling for those struggling with his passing,” the sheriff said.
The employee was 64 years old and was with our department for more than 8 years.
We are keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers during their time of bereavement. Out of respect for the family, the name is being withheld.
