
Deceased Identified In Merrillville Murder Suicide
On Saturday, February 15, 2025, at approximately 9:43 AM, Merrillville Police Officers responded to a call reporting shots fired in the 700 block of E Lincoln Highway, according to Chief Kosta Nuses.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals inside the station who had tragically sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Through further investigation, Merrillville Police Detectives have determined that this heartbreaking incident was a murder-suicide, stemming from a domestic matter. It was confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known parties to each other, confirming that this was an isolated event with no ongoing threat to public safety.
The identities of the deceased have been released by the Lake County Coroner as Amanda B. Dusek, 42, of Worth, Illinois. Her death was ruled a homicide. The second was identified as Douglas J. Venable, 45, of Lake Station. His manner of death is still currently pending.
The Merrillville Police Department extended its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this senseless loss. “Our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time.”
Luke’s Gas Station put out a statement saying, “We are aware of an unfortunate situation that took place this morning at our Merrillville store. We are appreciative of the work and investigation being conducted by local authorities. We will comment further once their process is complete. As a Luke family we will continue to pray and support our team and the communities we serve.”
