Dense Fog Plays Role in Fatal Crash On I-65

Indiana State Police investigated a crash late Tuesday night, January 14, 2019.  The crash involved a SUV and Semi-tractor and occurred near the 201 mile marker of Interstate 65. 

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kevin King revealed that the SUV was struck from behind by the Semi-tractor while traveling southbound approaching the exit for US Highway 24, exit 201.  A white Ford Edge being driven by Verlon Curran, 69, of Monticello, Indiana was attempting to exit at the 201 mile marker when it was struck from behind by a Volvo Semi-tractor being driven by Dimitri Cojocar, 27, of Federal Way, Washington.  The crash occurred at 9:32 PMand road conditions were heavy fog. 

According to Trooper King, the passenger vehicle was traveling at a reduced speed as the driver attempted to locate the exit for the interstate.  Both occupants of the SUV were taken to Franciscan Health of Rensselaer where the driver, Verlon Curran, was pronounced dead.
