Dolton Man Accused of Stealing Diamond Ring From Southlake Mall Store
According to court documents, 28-year-old Jaylen Najour Peck of Dolton, Illinois, has been charged in connection with the theft of a diamond ring from the JCPenney jewelry counter inside Southlake Mall on September 3, 2025. Peck allegedly asked to try on the ring and then fled through the north exit doors to a waiting SUV without paying.
Investigators reported the stolen item was a 14K gold lab-grown diamond men’s fashion ring valued at $5,749.98. License-plate reader data later tracked the SUV near U.S. 30 and I-65. Around 11:26 p.m. the same day, East Chicago police stopped a matching vehicle and took Peck into custody. According to police, he initially gave a false name. Peck later told detectives the theft was “impulsive,” admitted to an oxycodone addiction, and claimed he dropped the ring as he ran from the store.
Court filings also note that an asset-protection employee linked Peck and a female accomplice to additional jewelry thefts in Illinois during August and September.
