Dolton Mayor Addresses Police Shooting Saturday Night
Dolton Police Officers responded to a call of a man with a weapon on the 150th block of Irving Saturday night, according to Dolton Mayor Riley Rogers Sunday.
Officers arrived and found a black male fitting the description. Police ordered the man to show his hands and stop, Rogers said. The man attempted to flee officers on foot and then slowed down as officers continued to give commands to show his hands. At some point during the confrontation the man reached into his waistband and secured a weapon, Rogers stated. Numerous more commands by police were given to drop the weapon. The offender then raised his weapon and pointed the weapon at officers. Two officers fired shots hitting the offender, and he was placed under arrest, Rogers stated.
The offender a black male age 19-20 is in serious condition but stable at a local hospital. Body cams were running and the investigation is being conducted by the Illinois State Police, at this time they are still in the early stages of the investigation. The body cam footage will be released as soon as possible, Rogers said. Both officers are on administrative duty till the investigation is complete, Rogers said. This is the second officer involved shooting this year in Dolton, Rogers added.
