Driver Hits Numerous Cars Then Fled Before Being Caught
At approximately 3:20 PM, Friday, Dec. 9, Crown Point Police were notified of a hit and run traffic crash that occurred at 12800 Mississippi Parkway, according to Crown Point Police. A Lake County Emergency Center (LCEC) dispatcher advised of a brown van or SUV that struck six vehicles in the north parking lot of Franciscan Pointe Medical Center before fleeing the scene west bound on U.S. 231.
Units were attempting to locate the vehicle when LCEC received a second call of a brown van that was driving recklessly north bound in the 10700 block of Broadway. Units located the van at the intersection of Boadway and East Summit Street traveling north bound. The van pulled into and parked at Community Stroke and Rehabilitation Center, located at 10215 Broadway.
During the course of the investigation, officers determined the brown van also was the suspect vehicle involved in a hit and run traffic crash at 123rd Avenue and County Line Road earlier that day at approximately 3:08 p.m. Winfield Police responded to the incident at 123rd Avenue and County Line Road.
At the request of Winfield Police, the driver of the van was taken into custody and transported to the Crown Point Police Department, where Winfield officers took over the investigation.
In addition to charges filed by Winfield Police, Crown Point Police will file charges for leaving the scene of an accident with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
