Driver Strikes Porter County Police Car Before Fleeing

On Sunday, February 13, 2022 around 3:30 AM a pick up truck struck a Porter County Sheriff’s Department vehicle that was conducting a traffic stop near First St & Railroad Ave in Union Township, according to a police report.

The officer at the traffic stop said the vehicle struck his squad and continued to accelerate before driving into a ditch, according to radio traffic. The pick up truck accelerated out of the ditch and continued down the roadway at over 100 mph, the report states.  The officer suffered a neck injury from the impact.

The suspect then went through the middle of roadblock near CR 475 setup by back up officers. The suspect continued till he stopped at a red light at State Road 130 & 149.

The driver was ordered to put his hands out the window which he initially refused before obeying the commands of the officers. The suspect now identified as Randall O Cadieux, 52, of Bolingbrook, IL had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. 

Cadieux was taken to Valparaiso Medical Center for a blood draw where he stated, “I can’t believe I did this tonight, I’m an alcoholic.” Cadieux blood results registered at .305 BAC.

Cadieux was transported to Porter County Jail where he refused to cooperate with jail staff and treated this as a joke, the report stated. Cadieux then punched the body scan machine before finally cooperating with jail staff. 

Cadieux was changed with : 

Resisting Law Enforcement – Felony 

Operating While Intoxicated Endangering – Misdemeanor 

OWI over .15 – Misdemeanor 

OWI – Misdemeanor 

Leaving The Scene Of The Accident – Misdemeanor 

Reckless Driving – Misdemeanor
