Drug Warrant Executed In East Chicago

On Wednesday, March 26. 2025, East Chicago Gang & Narcotics Division, along with the Street Crime Unit, executed a State of Indiana search warrant for narcotics at 4334 Ivy Street in East Chicago.

The target of the investigation was 42-yeat-old Freddie E. Burley of East Chicago. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lake County Sheriff Department Jail, where he was charged with the following charges:

1 ct. of Dealing Cocaine (Level 2 Felony)

3 cts. of Dealing Cocaine (Level 4 Felony)

3 cts. of Dealing Cocaine (Level 5 Felony

1 ct. Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 Felony)

1 misdemeanor ct. of Possession of Marijuana

This investigation was the result of numerous controlled purchases of narcotics conducted by the Narcotics Division at 4334 Ivy Street. The charges were enhanced due to the target location being across the street from the School City of East Chicago Administration building.

The investigation into the property will continue. The Gang and Narcotics Division, along with Code Enforcement, will be reaching out to the property owner and enforcing a rental property nuisance ordinance, which carries a fine between $2,500 and $7,500. This ordinance is extremely effective against nuisance rental properties where police get numerous calls of services for nuisance calls.

This investigation was a collaborative effort between EC Gang and Narcotics Division, Uniform Patrol Division and Street Crime Unit.
