Dyer Manhunt Ends Monday Morning With Arrest

On July 5th at approximately 10:12pm Dyer PD assisted Sauk Village PD with a vehicle pursuit that entered into town, according to Chief Hein of The Dyer Police. The suspect vehicle traveled north on Hart St from 81st after crossing State Line. The suspect then traveled west on Plum Creek Dr which is a dead end. The vehicle went into a backyard hitting a clothes line pole & the driver fled South through the yards, according to neighbors. The passenger of the vehicle was immediately taken into custody, Hein stated. Dyer Police, Sauk Village Police, St John Police, Schererville Police & Lake County Police all converged on the area. Using three K-9 teams & a police helicopter for over two hours the search was terminated with no suspect being found.

In the morning hours of July 6th the suspect was seen walking down Park Manor Dr asking for directions to Sauk Village, Illinois. Dyer Police quickly setup a perimeter, Hein said. Assisted by St John, Schererville, Lake County Police Departments again a yard to yard search was completed with K-9. The suspect was spotted in the 2400 block of Lakewood Dr & a foot pursuit ensued, Hein said. The suspect was apprehended on the banks of Hart Ditch, just north of the 100 block of Plum Creek Drive.

“This was a great joint effort by all of the departments. The terrain was very challenging for the helicopter with all of the tree cover in the area. We are pleased with the law enforcement response & the cooperation from the residents” Chief Hein stated.

The suspect (Lonnelle Lavince Evans, 21) of South Bend, In & Sauk Village, IL has outstanding Illinois warrants including Aggravated Armed Robbery & Escape/Failure to comply with electronic monitoring.
