Dyer Police Investigating Homicide
On Saturday, November 11, 2023, at approximately 4:49 AM, Dyer Police Officers responded to Franciscan Hospital located at 24 Joliet St. for a combative subject, according to Dyer Police.
When officers arrived at the scene, it was learned that a male subject transported an unresponsive female inside a tow behind camping trailer to the hospital. When hospital personnel attempted to treat the victim, it was determined that she was already deceased and had signs of being battered.
The male subject was taken into custody and identified as Amare Keith Willson, 27 years of age with the last known address in Crete, Illinois.
The Office of the Lake County Coroner determined that the victim’s cause of death was a homicide by blunt force trauma. The victim was identified as Julie Ashdown, 50, who resided in Ford Heights, Illinois.
An investigation was conducted by the Dyer Police Department and Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force. The investigation revealed that the homicide occurred in an unknown location inside the camper trailer.
Due to concurrent jurisdiction with Illinois, the alleged crime scene and the victim being located in Dyer, Indiana, the Lake County Prosecutor has filed Murder and Aggravated Battery charges against Amare Keith Wilson.
Amare Keith Wilson is being held at the Lake County Jail without bond.
