Eagle On The Ground Captures Fresh Carjacked Vehicle While Driving
On Sunday,November 14th, 2021 at approximately 5:38 PM, Merrillville Police units responded to the 8200 Block of Louisiana Street for a report of carjacking, according to Assistant Chief Kosta Nuses.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim. The victim told police that he was attacked by three male subjects he met earlier in the day, while at his motel room in Merrillville. The subjects took his keys and gained access to the victims vehicle and eventually used it to flee the scene, Nuses stated.
In the early morning of November 15th, 2021, a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a pursuit involving the stolen vehicle. The Sheriff Officer who is also part of the Lake County Aviation Unit (Eagle Units) spotted the vehicle speeding past his unmarked police vehicle on 80/94. The officer gave chase and requested back up. It’s at that point the officer realized that this vehicle was carjacked during the last 24 hours. The pursuit later ended with the driver being taken into custody with the assistance of Merrillville units after a crash on Grant St, according to sources.
The driver was subsequently charged with Robbery, Criminal Confinement, Auto Theft and Resisting Law Enforcement.
This is the third carjacking in Merrillville since 11/2/2021. Carjackings & stolen vehicles continue to rise across the area once again, according to statistics.
