East Chicago Man Gunned Down In Monday Night Homicide

The Lake County Coroner has identified the victim of Monday nights shooting on the 3800 block of Elm St as Julio Salinas, 39, of East Chicago. Around 9:30pm East Chicago Police and Fire responded to shots fired and a gun shot victim. A male was found in the street with multiple gun shot wounds. Witnesses describe seeing multiple people running from the area shortly after about 15 shots ring out near the corner of 139th and Elm. East Chicago Police will be releasing statement on this incident in the morning today.

Update From ECPD –

On January 13th 2019 at approximately 9:39pm Patrol Officers responded to the sounds of gun fire in the area 139th / Elm Street, Deputy Chief Jose Rivera stated. Shotspotter indicated that 2 rounds were fired in the area of 3826 ELM Street, 6 rounds were fired in the area of 1918 E. 139th Street and that 9 rounds were fired in the area of 3902 Elm Street. Upon Officers arrival they located 1 male Hispanic victim now identified as Julio Salinas lying in the street in front of 3826 Elm Street. Salinas suffered a gunshot wound to the head area, 2 to the chest, 1 to the left thigh, 1 to the upper back and 1 in the buttocks area. Salinas was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his wounds.
