East Chicago Police Investigating Shooting
East Chicago Police were called Sunday morning for a male laying on the parkway near 136th & Grand Blvd, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera of the East Chicago Police.
On arrival of officers the male was found to be deceased from an apparent gun shot wound to the head. Police believe this occurred overnight Saturday sometime, Rivera told RNS. Shot Spotter did not detect anything in that area. The Lake County Coroner and Lake County Sheriff CSI was on scene around noon Sunday.
The Lake County Coroner has identified the victim as Angel Castaneda, 21, of Hammond.
5th District Councilman Robert Garcia was on scene Sunday morning and told RNS, “It’s sad that another young life had to end in this violence. This high violent crime must stop in East Chicago.”
