East Chicago Woman Charged After Police Respond To Report Of Child Being Struck
A 30-year-old East Chicago woman identified in court filings as Elizabeth Johnson was taken into custody after officers responded to a report of a juvenile being struck during a disturbance on November 21, 2025. The incident occurred inside an apartment in the 3600 block of Michigan Court after police were advised that an intoxicated woman was battering her 10-year-old son.
According to court documents, officers arrived and heard yelling from inside the residence before a child opened the door appearing visibly scared and crying. As police attempted to speak with him, Johnson approached from inside and began yelling, stating she had done nothing wrong and that it was not a crime to drink on her day off. Police advised her they needed to check on the child, and his father arrived on scene during the interaction.
The affidavit states the child told police that his mother began drinking and became upset about weekend visitation arrangements before striking him several times on his face, chest, and back with an open hand. He reported that she struck him in the stomach hard enough to cause him to vomit, which made her more upset, according to the affidavit. The child told officers he went into his room and texted a relative asking them to contact his father. The father told investigators he received a call and immediately drove to the residence, later finding the door open and being unable to locate the child before calling 911.
Police reported the child had pain in his back and stomach and observed small welts on his back and a small laceration under his eye. Medics arrived and evaluated him, according to the affidavit. When asked what occurred, Johnson reportedly stated, “Nothing that little shit called his dad because I kicked his ass.” When asked how the marks occurred, she stated, “I did hit his little ass because he don’t listen,” and regarding the scratch on his face she stated, “From my nails, I got long ass nails,” the affidavit says. Police documented a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath, and she reportedly told officers, “It’s my day off work and ya got fucked up,” .
Police advised Johnson she was being placed under arrest. As she was escorted outside, she yelled at the child, stating, “This is your fault I’m going to jail,” causing him to cry as he left with his father, court records state.
