EC Man Charged In Shooting Of 17 Year Old Hammond Boy

On April 22, 2021 at approximately 9:21 PM, East Chicago Police Officers responded to shots fired at 4746 Magoun Avenue, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera.

Shot Spotter Technology alerted to 7 rounds fired in the area, Rivera told RNS Friday. Dispatch advised officers that a 4 door black in color sedan was being shot at by a middle aged white male. Upon arrival Officers did not locate anyone, but they did locate 5 spent shell casings in the area of 148th and Magoun Avenue. 

A short time later dispatch advised that a gunshot victim was dropped off at Franciscan Hospital in Hammond.  The victim was a 17 year old male from Hammond, Indiana. He suffered 2 gunshot wounds to the right side of his face. His condition was listed as critical and he was transported to the University of Chicago for further treatment, Rivera stated. 

Detective Washington of East Chicago Criminal Investigation Division was assigned the case. Detective Washington spoke with witnesses and reviewed video surveillance footage from McKinley Elementary School, which is located across the street from where the shooting occurred.

On April 29, 2021 Detective Washington filed the following felony charges against Eriberto J. Flores (9/26/1967) of East Chicago:

1 count of Attempted Murder (Level 1 Felony)

1 count of Aggravated Battery (Level 3 Felony)

1 count of Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 Felony)

1 count of Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony)

Suspect Eriberto J. Flores was picked up on a traffic stop in East Chicago by our Patrol Division on April 27, 2021. He is currently in custody at the Lake County Jail.
