EC Woman Killed In Shooting Tuesday Morning
On Tuesday, 09/14/2021 at approximately 2:14 a.m. East Chicago Officer’s were dispatched to the area of 3904 Elm Street in reference to shots fired, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera. ShotSpotter indicated that two rounds were fired in the area.
Upon arrival Officers located an unresponsive female lying face down on the sidewalk in front of 3904 Elm Street. Officers also observed a vehicle leaving the immediate area. That vehicle was stopped and Officers recovered an AK47 style rifle from inside the vehicle, Rivera stated. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and brought in for questioning.
Medics arrived on scene shortly after and began to render aid to the victim. The victim was then transported to St. Catherine Hospital where she succumbed to her injury. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to her chest and the right side of her back. The victim was identified as 27 year old Moreshia M. Edwards of East Chicago.
