Eight Injured In Munster Crash Saturday

Eight people were transported to local hospitals by multiple ambulances Saturday night around 8:30 PM in Munster.

A two vehicle crash on the corner of Calumet & Ridge sent one car into a pillar at the Old National Bank injuring 8. A mutual aid EMS box alarm was called sending ambulances from neighboring communities including Hammond, Lansing, Thornton, and Superior Ambulances.

A witness told RNS they saw the white vehicles occupants arguing at the stoplight near Indianapolis and Ridge Road before the occupants sped off throwing a cell phone out the window. When the witness caught up with the vehicle they saw it crashed into the bank.

That offending vehicles driver is preliminary charged with a Level 5 OWI (Resulting in serious bodily injury), according to Munster Police Chief Steve Scheckel. Charges are pending with The Lake County Prosecutor.
