Extrication Of Driver Needed In Crash In Porter

Shortly after midnight, Porter Fire units and EMS were dispatched to the area of U.S.12 and Waverly road for a report of a crash with entrapment, according to Porter Fire Department. Fire Chief Craig was the first fire unit on scene and found a single vehicle crash into a tree just east of Waverly road on US 12 on the north side. The vehicle driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and required heavy extrication.

A medical helicopter was requested due to the injuries the driver sustained. Extrication took 40 minutes to complete and the driver was flown to a trauma center in South Bend. A blood toxicology was executed there and results are pending, according to Captain John Lane of The Porter Police. The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.

Burns Harbor Police and Washington Twp Fire Department assisted in setting up the landing zone. Chesterton Police assisted on scene and with traffic control. Joe’s Towing was on stand by in case needed for the extrication.
