Fatal Crash In Merrillville Closes 30 Temporarily

On Wednesday, 11/6/2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, Merrillville Patrol Officers were dispatched to the area of US 30 and Mississippi Street for a crash investigation.

Officers arrived on scene and observed that one of the drivers involved was unresponsive on scene. Medics and Merrillville Fire Department also arrived on scene and began to treat the driver. Witnesses on scene reported seeing first responders performing CPR.

The unresponsive driver was transported to a nearby hospital where they were later
pronounced deceased by medical staff. The name of the driver is being withheld pending the notification of family members.

Eastbound US 30 near Mississippi Street was closed for hours due to the crash investigation. A witness to the crash told RNS they saw the vehicle weaving erratically before it stuck a carrier vehicle and then another a car.
