Fatal Crash On 30 After Driver Crosses Median

On Thursday, May 5, 2022 at approximately 1:29 PM, Porter County Sheriff’s Officers were called to a two vehicle crash in the area of US Highway 30 / County Road 375 W in rural Union Township, according to The Porter County Sheriff’s Office.

​Initial investigation showed a 2019 Subaru passenger car was eastbound on US Highway 30 in the area of County Road 375 W when it went off the roadway for an unknown reason, crossing the grass median into the westbound lanes of US 30.  The vehicle was then struck by a Semi on the passenger side.  The driver of the Subaru was unfortunately pronounced deceased on-scene, Police told RNS. The driver of the semi was transported for minor injuries.

The Porter County Coroner’s Office identified the male Friday as 40-year-old Steven Prentice, of Wheatfield. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Autopsy and toxicology are pending.
