Fatal Crash Outside Lowell Saturday
At approximately 11:45 AM, Saturday, police officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to West 181st Avenue and Harrison street for a crash involving a semi tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.
A preliminary investigation shows the passenger vehicle had been traveling north on Harrison and was attempting to turn heading west on 181st. The semi was traveling eastbound on 181st when the two vehicles collided.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, 19 years old, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two rear passengers, ages 14 and 15 were flown to Chicago hospitals with life-threatening injuries. The Lake County Coroner has not released identification of the deceased.
The driver of the semi, 67 years old, was not injured.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
“Although there are no words that can ease the pain of those touched by this tragedy, my heart truly goes out to the family and other loved ones of those involved.” Martinez said.
