Fatal Crash Under Investigation
On Wednesday, September 11th, 2024, officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of a one-vehicle rollover crash with injuries at U.S. Route 231 and Iowa in Center Township, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.
A preliminary investigation suggests the driver was traveling west/northwest on U.S. 231 and was passing Iowa when he suddenly swerved left then overcorrected to the right. The vehicle, a red Hyundai Accent, veered off the road and struck a utility pole, causing it to roll over.
A 22-year-old male from Hebron was extricated from the car and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Martinez stated.
