Fatal Three Car Accident On 80/94 EB Between Calumet & Indianapolis

Shortly after 2am Sunday morning a three vehicle crash occurred at mile marker 2.5 Eastbound 80/94 just past the Calumet Ave exit. The crash involved two passenger cars and one semi. Preliminary information from Indiana State Police & Hammond Fire Department states that two people were transported to local hospitals and one fatality. Witnesses stuck in the traffic describe one vehicle speeding and weaving in and out lanes crashed into the back of the Lincoln which quickly ignited the gas tank and the car went up into flames. Both vehicles were on fire after the collision. First responders were not able to close enough to the fully engulfed vehicles to see if anyone was inside till firefighters were able to extinguish the flames. Indiana State Police have just opened up two more lanes at 7:15am after having all lanes shut down since 2:30am. Two separate accidents occurred in the traffic back up while the scene was still active. ISP will be providing more details later as the investigation continues.
