Fatal Train Crash After Driver Goes Around Gates
On January 5, 2021 approximately 8:24 PM the Gary Police Department was dispatched to the area of Melton Road and County Line Road for a train versus vehicle crash, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield of The Gary Police.
Upon investigation it was determined the CSX train was traveling eastbound and the vehicle was traveling southbound. The vehicle is said to have gone around the crossing gates and was struck by the train, Westerfield told RNS. The driver of the vehicle was later declared deceased on scene. The Porter County Coroner has identified the victim as 29-year-old Demetrius Parrish of Chicago, IL.
