Felony Charges Filed After Crown Point Woman Allegedly Points Loaded Handgun at Juvenile Son

A 37-year-old Crown Point woman has been arrested and charged after police say she pointed a loaded handgun at her juvenile son during a domestic disturbance that unfolded across multiple homes in a neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched around 1:37 p.m. on November 18, 2025, to the 11500 block of Rhode Island Street after Lake County Communications received a report of a disturbance involving a mother chasing her juvenile son through nearby yards.

As officers arrived, they saw the juvenile running through the neighborhood and waving to gain their attention. He told police his mother, Emma J. Fisher, had signed him out of Taft Middle School earlier in the day by claiming there was a family emergency. After returning home, Fisher accused him of stealing her money — which he denied — and the argument escalated.

The juvenile reported that Fisher then displayed a black handgun with a red sight, chambered a round, and pointed the firearm at him, causing him to fear for his life. He fled the residence barefoot, wearing only shorts and a sweatshirt, and ran to a nearby home for help.

A homeowner in the 11400 block of Vermont Street told officers the juvenile had run into her garage and reported that his mother had pointed a gun at him and was chasing him. Another homeowner provided Ring doorbell footage showing the juvenile arriving on her porch, looking around frantically, and then running off as a blue Ford Bronco pulled up nearby.

Officers located Fisher driving the Bronco and detained her. After being advised of the allegations, Fisher gave verbal consent for a search of the vehicle. Police located a black Kimber Micro 9 handgun inside her purse on the passenger seat, loaded with a round in the chamber. The weapon was seized and entered into evidence.

Fisher was taken into custody and booked into the Lake County Jail.

Charges filed November 19,2025:

    •    Criminal Recklessness Committed With a Deadly Weapon — Level 6 Felony

    •    Pointing a Firearm at Another Person — Level 6 Felony
