Female Struck By Snowplow In Aldi Parking Lot

On Tuesday, 1/14/2025, at approximately 8:13 AM, Merrillville patrol officers were dispatched to Aldi (10 W Lincoln Highway) for a report of crash involving a pedestrian, according to Merrillville Police Assistant Chief Matt Vasel.

Officers arrived on scene a short time later and observed a female who had been struck
by a plow truck. Merrillville Fire Department and medics arrived on scene and began to treat the female. The female had critical injuries and was later transported to a local hospital for treatment. A medivac helicopter was initially requested but due to the weather the helicopter was not flying. The latest update that we have recieved as of 3 PM on the female pedestrian is that she was in surgery and still critical.

The Merrillville Accident Team responded to the scene and began to process the scene. It appears at this time this was a tragic accident and the female may have been an Aldi store employee. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released at a later time.
