Fight At Church Leads To Stabbing & Shot Fired Sunday
On Sunday, September 8, 2024, at approximately 9:49 AM, officers from the Hammond Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance located at 4850 Ash Avenue at the Christian Community Church of Christ. Upon arrival, officers discovered a physical altercation involving several members of the public, including juveniles, Hammond Police said.
According to witness statements and preliminary investigations, the altercation escalated when a female, whose children were involved in the fight, used a knife to stab individuals who were fighting with her children. During the incident, another female retrieved a firearm from her vehicle and discharged one shot into the air in an attempt to stop the stabbing and ongoing fight.
Officers quickly secured the scene and arrested both the individual who used the knife and the individual who discharged the firearm. They were transported to the Hammond Police Department for processing. The victim of the stabbing was transported to St. Catherine’s Hospital for medical treatment; their condition is currently unknown.
