Fire Crews Battle Munster House Fire

Around 5:15 PM Sunday Munster Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on the 500 block of Fisher Place.

On arrival fire crews were met with heavy smoke coming from the front door, according to Munster Fire Assistant Chief Dave Strbjak. The occupants were out of the home when police first arrived. Police also notified fire that the couch in the living room was on fire on their arrival. RNS witnessed fire crews pulling an artificial Christmas Tree out of the home on our arrival but it’s unclear if the tree started the fire at this time. The fire damaged the living room, kitchen, and kids rooms but the smoke damage to the home was significant, according to a neighbor. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

Crews cut into the roof to ventilate the home after calling a Box Alarm for assistance. Lansing, Highland, Dyer, Calumet City, Glenwood, South Holland and Lynwood were sent to Munster to assist and provide station coverage. The Red Cross will be in touch with the family to offer any assistance the family may need, Strbjak said.
