First Degree Murder Charges Filed In Lynwood Shooting

A First Degree Murder Charge has been pressed against Johnatan Arroyo-Ortiz of East Chicago, IN today at 1:40pm at the Lynwood Police Station. Arroyo-Ortiz was charged with killing Diondre Crosby-Nelson, January 28, 2020 on the 2000 block of Glenwood Dyer Road outside of the Lynwood Roller Rink. Arroyo allegedly came to the parking lot of Roller Rink to meet Crosby to sell him a cell phone. During the exchange Crosby took the phone from Arroyo and a female passenger from Munster. Crosby ran across Glenwood Dyer Road with Arroyo giving chase eventually leading to Arroyo shooting Crosby multiple times in his back, buttocks, and head. Crosby succumbed to his injuries at Franciscan Dyer.


Arroyo is expected to have a bond hearing tomorrow at The Markham Courthouse. The Lynwood Police Department extends their condolences to the Crosby-Nelson family on their loss.
