Former New Chicago Officer Faces Multiple Charges
On April 27th, 2021, Indiana State Police District 13 Criminal Investigation Division signed charges against former New Chicago Reserve Police Officer Kamal Hamed.
Hamed is accused of stealing a legend drug, Busiprone Hydrochloride, from an on duty incident on April 19th, 2021 at the New Chicago Town Bar. New Chicago Police became aware of a discrepancy in reporting by former officer Hamed and contacted the Indiana State Police to complete an investigation. Before the ISP investigation was started, Hamed resigned from the New Chicago Police Department. New Chicago Police found about the missing bag of pills through a firefighter who was also on scene the night of the arrest.
Hamed was on the department for about a year, according to New Chicago Police Chief Bill Perry. There were no other complaints about Hamed during his service, Perry said. Integrity is huge with Chief Perry and this news not only affects Hamed but the Department. Hamed is also associated with a local group of news reporters called NWI Stringers through family.

Unlawful Possession or use of a legend drug – Level 6 Felony
