“Friend” Pistol Whips Man and Steals Car

On Sunday August 18, 2024, 8:04 PM, New Chicago Police Officers received an emergency call for an armed robbery. The reporting party advised that himself and a friend were sitting at his home when the “alleged” friend grabbed a pistol off the table then struck him in the face with it. The suspect then took the reporting parties keys, gun, glasses, and phone and exited the residence. The suspect then stole the reporting parties vehicle a gray 2005 Jaguar.

New Chicago SRT Team (strategic response team) lead by New Chicago Chief Mayo and Operations Commander Goffin investigated the matter and were able to obtain the suspects name and possible address in Gary. The team was able to take 18 year old Nehemiah Bellamy into custody at his residence without incident.

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office has accepted the following charges: In reference to our robbery case the prosecutor has come back with the following charges:

Count 1: robbery, resulting in serious body injury, a level 2 felony
Count 2: criminal confinement level 3 felony
Count 3: armed robbery level 3 felony
Count 4: intimidation level 5 felony
Count 5: theft level 5 felony
Count 6: auto theft level 6 felony
Count 7: criminal mischief class B misdemeanor

All suspects involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
