Gary Man Admits To Road Rage Shooting In Portage Monday
On Monday, 01/13/2025, at approximately 9:56 PM, Portage Police were dispatched to the intersection of Willowdale Rd & Stone Ave in reference to a Criminal Mischief case, according to a police report. Dispatch advised the complainant stated they had damage to their rear taillight, and a suspect vehicle, a grey Chevy Impala, fled northbound onto Willowdale Rd.
The victim told officers she was coming from Hobart, driving eastbound on Lute Rd going towards CVS when suddenly a Grey Chevy Impala went on the wrong side of the road and passed her and multiple other vehicles. The victim stated the Chevy Impala was in front of her and continuously brake checked her. The victim flashed her high beams at the Impala, which caused the driver of the Impala to pull to the side of the road at the intersection of Lute Rd and Waterside Dr. The victim stated she thought the driver of the Impala was signaling for her to pass him. As she passed the Impala, she heard a loud “pop” sound come from the rear of her vehicle.
The victim advised she continued driving eastbound on Lute approaching Willowcreek Rd, when she observed the Impala turn onto Waterside Dr going into the Willowcreek apartment complex. The victim advised she turned southbound on Willowcreek and entered the apartment complex at the intersection of Waldorf PI. where she stopped as she entered the complex and observed the Impala drive towards her and leave the complex at a high rate of speed driving northbound onto Willowcreek Rd. The victim stated she conducted a U-turn and followed the vehicle. The victim advised officers the Impala turned westbound onto Stone Ave at a high rate of speed and was able to obtain the suspect vehicles plate information.
Officers discovered a bullet hole in the rear of the car and recovered a bullet fragment.
Officers ran the plates obtained by the victim and discovered the suspects plates were registered in the apartment complex. Police were able to locate the vehicle at the complex. Officers knocked on the door of the suspects registered address and located a male now identified as Anthony Booyer, 40, of Gary inside his mother’s home. Booyer immediately admitted to being involved in the incident. Police located a handgun and two spent shell casings on the windshield of the Impala near the wiper blades as well. Booyer admitted his temper got the best of him and recognized the severity of shooting at vehicles.
Booyer was charged with Criminal Recklessness a Level 5 Felony and lodged at the Porter County Jail.
