Gary Man Charged in December Apartment Complex Shooting

Leroy Glenn Jr., 38, of Gary, is facing multiple felony charges stemming from a December 18, 2025 early-morning shooting at an apartment complex in Gary.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Clark Road. Police were dispatched in reference to a shooting and located a woman seated outside with an apparent gunshot wound to her left calf, including an entry and exit wound.

A witness told police he heard a heated argument outside between the woman and an unknown male over a missing $40. The witness reported observing the male push the woman out of a vehicle before the incident appeared to end. Shortly afterward, the witness stated he heard a single gunshot. When he looked back outside, the woman was crying and injured, and the male suspect had fled the area in a crème-colored sedan with a damaged front bumper.

Police reported finding a single bullet casing near the curb. The woman initially appeared uncooperative and in shock but was transported by medics to Methodist Northlake Hospital for treatment.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and license plate reader data from the area. Camera footage showed a light-colored sedan exiting the apartment complex onto Clark Road southbound at approximately 3:03 a.m. No other vehicles were observed entering or leaving the area during the same time frame.

Further investigation identified a tan Buick Century with visible front-end damage, a dark lower front bumper, mismatched rims, and a broken passenger-side opera window. The vehicle was captured by license plate reader cameras multiple times on the west side of Gary before and after the shooting.

Investigators learned the vehicle was registered to a woman who told officers that Glenn had possession of her vehicle overnight and did not return it to her in East Chicago until around 4:00 a.m. Court records also reference a prior incident involving Glenn allegedly brandishing a firearm and threatening to kill the vehicle’s owner.

The injured woman later told investigators the suspect, known to her as “Roy,” picked her up earlier that night. She stated they went to his residence and engaged in sexual activity. When she went to put her clothes back on, she noticed money missing from her pants pocket and questioned him about it. She reported that Glenn denied knowing where the money was or taking it.

According to the affidavit, Glenn drove her back to her apartment building, produced a handgun, pushed her out of the vehicle, and shot her in the left calf before fleeing the area.

The woman later identified Leroy Glenn Jr. from a photo array as the person who shot her. She reported the wound was a through-and-through injury, no bones were struck, and she experienced pain that required her to use crutches while recovering.

Court records state Glenn was previously convicted of second-degree murder in Michigan in 2010.

Lodged in Lake County Jail on January 2,2026.

    •    Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon — Level 4 Felony

    •    Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon — Level 5 Felony
