Gary Man Charged With Child Molestation
Lake County- A 42-year-old Gary man has been charged after investigators say a child disclosed years of inappropriate contact that occurred over a two-year time period.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the reported incidents took place between October 2022 and October 2024. The victim told authorities the abuse began when she was 8 years old.
Detectives with the Schererville Police Department were assigned to the case after school staff contacted the child’s mother regarding the disclosure. The mother told investigators she had not been aware of the allegations prior to being contacted by the school. A forensic interview was later conducted at Dunebrook Advocacy Center in December 2024.
The child’s mother told investigators the defendant, identified as Rudy Lee Alegria, her ex-boyfriend, had lived at their Crown Point residence during the time of the alleged incidents. Court documents show Alegria did not respond to multiple attempts by investigators to speak with him during the course of the investigation .

Lodged in the Lake County Jail on October 21,2025
The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
