
Gary Man Charged With Kidnapping and Rape After Police Chase
A Gary man is facing a wide range of felony charges after investigators say he kidnapped and raped a woman he had recently met at a Gary train station, then fled police in a stolen vehicle before being apprehended.
According to court documents, Quaterris Maurice Allen Franklin first met the victim on September 15, 2025, at the Clark Road train station. After exchanging phone numbers, Franklin allegedly began calling her obsessively and appeared to stalk her. On September 18, police say Franklin lured her into a vehicle, drove her to a secluded area, strangled her until she lost consciousness, and sexually assaulted her multiple times while making threats to kill her .
The victim disclosed the assault to relatives after Franklin dropped her off, prompting medical treatment and police involvement. Detectives later recovered a condom consistent with her account.
That same day, officers pursued Franklin in a Chevrolet Trailblazer later confirmed stolen. He fled a felony stop, led officers through Merrillville and Gary, and eventually crashed before fleeing on foot with a firearm. He was apprehended after a short pursuit, and a handgun was recovered along his route .
On September 20, 2025, prosecutors formally filed charges, and a separate notice of intent was submitted to pursue a habitual offender enhancement, citing Franklin’s prior felony convictions .
