Gary Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Stabbing Incident
A Gary man is facing a murder charge following a fatal stabbing that took place early Friday morning, June 20, 2025, at a residence on the 3900 block of Polk Street.
According to court documents, officers were dispatched to the home at approximately 1:00 a.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing. The victim was found with a serious abdominal wound and was transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital before being airlifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim died later that morning at 9:00 a.m.
The suspect, Markcovic Decarlos Stacy, 28, was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with murder.
According to the affidavit, Stacy told detectives he had been staying at his sister’s home, where the victim also lived in the basement. Stacy stated that after drinking with guests earlier that night, he fell asleep on the couch. He claimed to have awakened to find the victim allegedly fondling him. Stacy reported confronting his sister via text, who advised him to sleep in another room and that she would handle the matter in the morning.
Instead, Stacy admitted to retrieving a kitchen knife and confronting the victim in the basement. He told detectives that he “wanted to hurt him” and ultimately stabbed the victim during a confrontation, describing the act as unintentional but acknowledging he thrust the knife into the victim’s abdomen. Stacy then waited outside the home until police arrived.
During an interview at the Gary Police Department, Stacy expressed no remorse for his actions and claimed that the victim had made unwanted sexual advances toward him in the past.
Investigators were unable to locate the knife during a search of the residence following Stacy’s arrest. The sister, who witnessed the aftermath of the stabbing, confirmed she saw her brother holding the knife and later attempting to hide it. She also stated that the knife did not appear to belong to the household.
The case remains under investigation by the Gary Police Department in cooperation with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The identity of the victim has not been released by the Cook County Medical Examiner as of the printing of this article.
Markcovic Stacy remains in custody pending formal arraignment. Stacy was charged with Murder.
