Gary Man Commits Armed Robbery RIGHT NEXT DOOR to Highland Police Station
On January 30, 2025, the Highland Police Department was dispatched to a report of a robbery at the Citgo Gas Station on Ridge Road, right next to the Highland police station.
According to court documents, at 8:20 AM, the 74 year old victim pulled into the gas station/convenience store, went inside, and purchased a cup of coffee. When the victim exited, a male subject called him over asking for money. When the elderly victim pulled out his wallet and opened it, the suspect grabbed the entire wallet out of his hands. The suspect then ran back and got into the driver’s seat of his own vehicle.
The victim chased after the suspect. While the victim was at the suspect’s driver’s side door, attempting to get his wallet back, the suspect then pulled a black handgun out of his pocket and pointed the gun at the victim. When the victim saw the gun, he immediately stopped trying to get his wallet back. The victim then went back inside the gas station and called 911.
During the investigation, surveillance footage from multiple sources was obtained and the suspect’s vehicle was later found parked in front of a residence in the 4600 block of Buchanan St in Gary.
The suspect has been identified as Courtney Clay, 22, of Gary. Clay has been charged with Armed Robbery, a Level 3 Felony.
