Gary Man Found Guilty in 2023 Clark Road Homicide
Thomas Demarcus Starks of Gary has been found guilty in connection with a deadly ambush shooting that left one person dead and another seriously injured at an apartment building on Clark Road in Gary.
Lake County Prosecutor Bernard A. Carter announced the verdict in a media advisory on October 24, 2025.
Starks was found guilty of the following charges:
• Count 1: Murder – Felony Murder
• Count 2: Attempted Murder – Level 1 Felony
• Count 3: Aggravated Battery – Level 3 Felony
• Count 4: Burglary of a Dwelling – Level 4 Felony
Prosecutor Carter extended his sincere congratulations to Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Jacob Brandewie and Veronica Gonzales for their outstanding work and dedication to this case. A special thank you was also given to Detective Roger Escutia of the Indiana State Police, Sgt. Manuel and Corporal Green of the Gary Police Department, and all law enforcement that diligently work hard to keep Lake County safe.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 19, 2025.
